Dear Bird Enthusiasts:
I spent Friday morning birding the Blue Ridge Center for Environmental
Stewardship Friday with three experts, Paula Sullivan, Laura Catterton,
and Mary Ann Good. While I was busy just trying to identify the
birds, Paula, Laura, and Mary Ann were also demonstrating their
expertise by ID'ing the dragonflies, animal tracks, plants, and
wildflowers. We found 55 species on a day in which we found a lot
more birds speaking to us than we expected on a day in late July.
Highlights were eight species of warbler, includinig Blue-winged,
Grasshopper Sparrow, and high counts for Wood Thrush (18) and Acadian
Flycatcher (10).
The Center is private property of the Leggett Foundation, located in
far Northwestern Loudoun County near the village of Neersville. More
information is available at www.blueridgecenter.org
