Eleven people participated in this morning's regular monthly bird walk
at the 900 acre Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship in
northwestern Loudoun County. It was misty with a temperature of about
50 degrees & even though we were walking at the foot of the Blue Ridge
we were rarely able to see them due to the fog. We first walked the
Sweet Run Loop at the end of Sawmill Road & then checked out the area
around the Visitor Center.
The highlights of the 46 species included beautiful views of a male
NORTHERN HARRIER (a Gray Ghost), a First of the Year (for most of us)
BROWN THRASHER, several singing EASTERN MEADOWLARKS, and about 30
RUSTY BLACKBIRDS and 20 NORTHERN FLICKERS mixed in with a flock of
robins, starlings, and a variety of other birds.
