The NVBC welcomes Bob Ake to our meeting this Wednesday evening. Bob has said
that he could spend every hour of every day observing birds in
nature. And that's pretty much what he did in 2010 when he and fellow Virginia
birder John Spahr spent the year combing the United States and Canada trying to
see as many birds as they could. Bob finished the year with 731 species,
ranking him second all-time among those completing an American Birding
Association (ABA) annual list. Join us for Bob’s illustrated talk about his
Big Year. In addition to his travels, he’ll describe the planning and the
execution of the project, with a summary of the costs and mileage, and offer
suggestions for anyone else interested in trying an ABA Big Year
Early bird refreshments start at 7:30 PM. There will be a drawing for door
prizes. If you have items you would like to donate as prizes or if you would
like to share some refreshments, please bring them to the meeting.
Northern Virginia Bird Club pins will be available at the meeting for members
who would
like to purchase them ($5 each).
We will also have a book exchange at the meeting, so you are welcome to bring
some books to trade in for new ones.
Meeting place: Church of the Covenant, 2666 Military Road, Arlington, 22207.
You can find directions at http://www.nvabc.org/meetings.htm
All are welcome at our meetings and we especially encourage new people to
attend.
