On an early morning walk through the meadow at Riverbend Park (Fairfax
County) I was surprised to find a BOBOLINK. It was a first-for-this-location
sighting for me. It most resembled the adult breeding female pictured in
Sibley's, i.e., not showing much yellow. After I had viewed it at fairly
close
range, it flew off across the meadow giving its flight "ink" note.
There were typical summer birds at the meadow as well including Scarlet
Tanagers, Orioles, Indigo Buntings, Chipping Sparrows, House and Carolina
Wrens,
Goldfinches, Flickers, Pileated and other Woodpeckers, etc.
