Hi VA-Birders,
Yesterday we conducted the spring bird count for the Harwood's Mill
Reservoir sector for the Newport News area. This covers the Grafton area in
lower York County.
We tallied 82 species for the day, between 6:30am and 6pm.. The best bird
was seen first thing in the morning behind the retention pond at Grafton
Station Apartments (located behind Washington Square Shopping Center on Rt.
17). We heard the unmistakable song of a Bobolink and then one flew in
close to us and perched on top of a small tree, giving us a fantastic look.
We also had several very cooperative Blackpoll Warblers and Eastern
Meadowlarks here.
Just wish we could have been in all locations in our sector between 6:30
and 8:00am...
