Va virders
Inpired by several different things, I spent yesterday afternoon and most
of today in Southside Va.
Rt. 604 through Piney Grove had lots of PEE-WEES both days, a male SUMMER
TANAGER both days, at least one male RED-HEADED WOODPECKER both days, a
family of PRAIRIE WARBLERS with two juveniles.
Jericho ditch at Great Dismal Swamp had all the PROTHONATRY WARBLERS you'd
ever want to see, lots of GREEN HERONS, several KINGFISHERS, a couple
BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS.
The flies won at Washington Ditch as I wasn't willing to re-goop myself.
South on White Marsh three juv and two adult BOB WHITE QUAIL hurried
across the road in front of me, and one juv crossed behind me, evidence
that Quail are smarter than Possums IMHO.
SWAINSON'S WARBLER at Lowground Rd at the Meherrin River, many thanks to
Todd for telling us about this. No MIKI, no Bachmann's Sparrow.
Good birding,
John Fox
