Hi all,
My fiance Jo Anna Leachman and I headed to the Claytor Lake area for the
weekend to check out the Brown Booby. On the way to the lake, we stopped at a
service station and noticed a decent number of migrants around. The lights of
the nearby car dealership likely contributed to this fallout in the foggy
conditions, in our scans of the few shrubs around the parking lot, we saw 6-7
CAPE MAY WARBLERS, 1 BLACKPOLL WARBLER, 1 (quite late) albilora YELLOW-THROATED
WARBLER, one Orange-crowned/Tennessee (quick look) and a bunch of YELLOW-RUMPED
WARBLERS. From there we headed to the lake where the BROWN BOOBY (photos at
the link below) put on quite a show, at one point the bird was only a couple of
feet away. Other birds of interest on and around the lake included a
juv./female plumaged BLACK SCOTER, 1 LAUGHING GULL, 1 HERRING GULL, and 1
NASHVILLE WARBLER.
Good Birding!
