I arrived at work today to see one of the custodians had a bird in his hand and
was showing it to people. Once I was able to get rid of the photo takers i
found the bird to be an adult black and white warbler, who seemed stunned, but
had no problem snapping at people trying to touch him (good birdie!). He was
refusing to fly but did not seem to have any visible injuries. He kept closing
his eyes. I called the Wildlife Center of Virginia and spoke to a rehabber, who
advised me to leave the warbler in an open box in a safe area and call her back
if it had not flown away within a half hour. To my utter joy, he flew away
seconds after I left him in the box.
Sadly enough this has been my FOS black and white warbler! I hope his brethren
find their way without colliding with the awful glass buildings we have
everywhere.
I would love to lobby the building and/or fundraise to install something that
could prevent this from happening. Any tips?
