At Burke Lake this morning (31 March), there were a number of typical
birds, plus:
Red-Necked Grebe - 1
Horned Grebe - 1
Swainson's Thrush - 1
Thanks to Fred Atwood and young birder Tim __, who alerted us this
morning about the R-N Grebe. We saw the Swainsons' in bushes just a few
feet from the lake edge, near a shaded picnic table, roughly 1/2 mile
clockwise from the main parking lot. This was far from the main path
around the lake, but close to a small footpath near the lake edge. We
got a very good look at it and clearly distinguished it from Hermit and
other Catharus thrushes.
