I checked these 3 lakes today to see if I could find any Red-necked Grebes. As
I reported earlier there were 21 at Burke Lake. Two were by the marina and 19
were near the dam. No grebes were at the other locations. ALso present at
Burke Lake were two male goldeneyes, a pied billed grebe, horned grebe, all
three mergansers, nearly 100 lesser scaups, and some cormorants, ruddies,
redheads, ring-necked ducks and buffleheads. I could not find the white-winged
scoters today. A bald eagle was on the nest. No great blue herons were at the
rookery but several were along the shore.
Woodglenn lake had a lot of hooded mergansers (30), a lesser scaup and
ring-necked ducks.
Royal Lake had 3 gadwalls and a mute swan. I am guessing that this is the same
swan that was at Burke Lake when Royal Lake froze over. A dogwalker said she
thinks the swan has been here about a year.
