Yesterday (Friday) afternoon between 2:05 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. I observed the
three Mississippi Kites that have been observed in Burke, VA at the
intersection of Jackson St. and Gaines St. One adult and two juvenile
Mississippi Kites were soaring in the skies above for the entire time I was
there. The two juveniles soared consistently higher than the adult. The
adult soared closer to the intersection and was much easier to see. The
white head of the adult was very prominent. The adult would occasionally
perch in a nearby Tulip tree. The tree where last year's Kites had a nest is
no longer visible from the intersection because of the density of the
foliage above the intersection.
