Hola Birders,
Today on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel several of us found a Hatching Year
female-type Northern Goshawk on Island 4. The bird was first found by Josh
Nemeth, Zach Smith, Dan Rauch and Wendy Fair. I was able to get a few
in-flight shots of it as it flew Northwest out over the bay and towards the
Eastern Shore. Are there any previous records for NOGOs on the bridge tunnel?
The current checklist does not list it.
The previously reported drake Harlequin Duck is still present on island 4 (and
very photogenic). There is a hen Harlequin on island 2. A Woodcock was also
found on 4. All three Scoters were present along with several Teal, some Scaup
and a few Red-breasted Mergansers. Many Gannets were feeding between 3 & 4.
The previously reported Long-tailed Ducks were not found today.
Good day and Good birding,
-Sam Stuart
