Betsy True and I did a CBC today in Loftridge Park and at Governor's Pond
Circle (both in zip 22303) and, while the all-around numbers were relatively
low, we had some great highlights which helped us forget how cold we were!
Loftridge highlights:
- a pair of Pileateds, and a possible nest site which I'll check out in the
Spring
- a Hermit Thrush (not sure I've ever seen one in the winter in that park
before)
- a Red-Breasted Nuthatch (I thought I'd heard one a couple weeks back, but
was never able to spot it - Betsy did some pishing and it came right in front
of us!)
- a Bald Eagle (full adult) was our last bird at this park - soaring over
what probably was Cameron Run at 9:55am
Over at Governor's Pond:
- a funny hybrid goose - most likely the same kind described so wonderfully
by Dave Hewitt's link on Thursday - looked almost exactly like the
Greglag/Canada hybrid photos there.
On a side note - I'm lucky enough to be going to Belize on an extremely short
cruise (we'll only be in Belize for a day, docking in Belize City). Does
anyone out there have any information on possible day-long birding guides
and/or locations near the city? I'm not sure if we'll have time for birding,
but I am going to try! Please respond off list to "grebebird AT yahoo DOT
com". Thanks!
Happy birding!
