I have a hypothesis and I want to know what you all think.
I was thinking that the Carbonated Swamp-Warbler is a spring male Cape May
Warbler. I know he wasn't always an honest man, so perhaps he needed a new
species to surprise people with and help his image. My thinking is that upon
shooting two Cape May Warblers he decided to change some aspects of colour
and field marks to create this new specie. If you look at his paintings then
look at a spring Cape May you will see the resemblance.
This is also perhaps the case with Cuvier's Kinglet and maybe even Blue
Mountain Warbler. Cuvier's Kinglet looks an awful lot like a Glolden-crowned
Kinglet, or the Asian Flamecrest. Blue Mountain Warbler looks a lot like
Blackburnian Warbler.
