I went out to Carvins Cove this evening to see if the storm had brought any
migrants in. Apparently it had as there were several birds scattered across the
lake. Birds present included 3 COMMON LOONS (all in breeding plumage), 1
DOUBLE -CRESTED CORMORANT, 8 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS (7 females), 4 HORNED
GREBES,
3 PIED-BILLED GREBES, 4 HERRING GULLS (3 adults), 9 BONAPARTE'S GULLS (1 with
black head), and 26 RING-BILLED GULLS (mostly imms.). Other birds observed
included 1 WILD TURKEY, 1 PINE WARBLER, 1 KINGFISHER, 4 MALLARDS, and a pair of
CANADA GEESE.
At nearby Murray's Pond the only birds of note were a dozen or so NORTHERN
ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS. All of the ducks, as well as the Tundra Swan, have
departed.
