John & Marilyn Adair and I visited Zoar State Forest today and were
surprised to find a lone Cedar Waxwing feeding in one of the pine trees.
Indigo
Buntings were the dominant species around the forest entrance and fields,
and Bluebirds seem to dominate the pine sections. Six woodpecker species
were seen (Red-headed, Pileated, Downy, Hairy, Red-bellied and Flicker.)
Other notables were Blue Grosbeak, Catbird, Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Northern
Parula, and Summer Tanagers. Northern Bobwhites were calling, but none were
spotted.
