All – I went up to the Blue Ridge Parkway to look for warblers this afternoon.
I spent a couple of hours at one of my favorite warblering sites – Yankee Horse
Ridge pull off near mile post 34 on the P’way. Spring is still a little way
off up on the P’way. A few of the early spring flowers are blooming and the
buds are just beginning to swell and grow on the trees. In the woods around
the pull off, I found Blue-headed Vireos, several Black-and-white Warbler, 2
Blackburnian Warblers, and to my surprise a Cerulean Warbler (it’s a little
early for them in our area). Also, I saw 2 Broad-winged Hawks moving north
along the Blue Ridge. I’ve posted some photos on my Flickr site of the
Cerulean, B&W, and Blackburnian Warblers from today as well as photos of
Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, Red-headed Woodpecker, and Prairie Warbler from Sunday.
