Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy kicked off a week of International Migratory
Bird Day walks throughout Loudoun County at the Blue Ridge Center for
Environmental Stewardship this morning. Nine people showed up on a cool but
dry and beautiful morning and found a total of 64 species, including three
found before the walk & one after. The highlights of the walk, which
followed Arnold Rd, the Sweet Run Loop, and Butterfly Alley, were an
American Kestrel, four vireo species, two Common Ravens, two Scarlet
Tanagers, one Swamp Sparrow, and three Eastern Meadowlarks. Including birds
seen before the walk, 10 warbler species were found including 4 Cerulean
Warblers, a Chestnut-sided, two Redstarts, and three Ovenbirds. The only
Louisiana Warbler found was before the walk in the same location as the only
Wild Turkey and only Indigo Bunting.
