Yesterday I saw 6 Meadowlarks in the main soccer field at Rock Hill District
Park in Chantilly. They have been at this location in the spring, during the
past several years. I don't think they've stayed around to breed though.
And there is an occupied Red-Tail Hawk nest on Lee Road. An adult was hunkered
down atop the nest all day long yesterday and today. Very little of the adult
can be seen from the ground - just the red tail and occasionally the head.
The RTHA have nested here several times during the past 10 years. The nest has
always become shrouded in leaves, before I could see any sign of hatched
juveniles.
