I've had luck keeping black snakes at bay by sprinkling sulfur all
around the ground under my nest boxes. I renew it after every rain, but
it's cheap, so that's not a big deal. A four pound bag will last at
least two seasons. As for raccoons, etc., I don't have a good answer.
