Today was spend at Chincoteague NWR walking around and playing tour guide to my
folks. Birding was done on the go and I was not disappointed. A total of 76
species were recorded with the highlights being the bar-tailed godwit, a
wilson's phalarope, a FOS yellow-bellied sapsucker, many warblers (American
redstart, black-and-white, northern parula, pine, palm, yellow, and
yellow-rumped) and a few lesser black-backed gulls along the beach. All birds
were pretty much concentrated in the wet areas along the beach road to Tom's
Cove visitor center. The reported Say's Phoebe was not found and assumed to be
gone on the high winds heading south.
