My son, Peter, and I birded the Saltville ponds this morning. Highlight of
the day was a Common Gallinule, the first that we have seen at that
location. We estimated the Canada Goose count at least 300, the most we
have counted in about 30 years birding at Saltville. One goose had a band on
it's leg. We also counted 37 coots another personal count record for our
trips to the Saltville ponds Other highlights included four snipe,
Killdeer, yellow-rumped warblers and a hairy woodpecker. There were plenty
of mallards on the ponds and a few Gadwall Ed Morgan, Abingdon, VA
