Hey all, I observed a Common Loon in non-breeding plumage in the James River
off of Lion's Bridge beach in Newport News adjacent to Mariner's Museum Park.
The bird was feeding close to shore around 7:30pm, but had moved towards the
middle of the river by 8pm, although the light was better then and it was fun
to watch the bird preen. Anyway, the latest Loon I've found in Hampton Roads.
A squawking pair of Yellow-crowned Night-herons flew over and a pair of
Northern Rough-winged Swallows almost ran me over. Take care,
