Between 5pm and 6pm my wife and I were delighted to watch several
flocks (or were they dissimulations? or maybe even voleries?**) of
Common Nighthawks fly by. Several of the birds vocalized in their
wonderfully odd way. Unlike almost all of my previous Nighthawk
sightings, the light was wonderfully bright and the birds were a
delight to behold. Total for the hour was 13 birds. We were disrupted
when I found a nice big female Black Widow in the screen door.
** If you are interested both volery and dissimulation are collective
nouns denoting a collection of birds. http://www.ojohaven.com/collectives/
Note, next time I see a group of Owls I will definitely be
referring to them as a Parliament!
Good birds,
