VA Birders,
I went to Fort C. F. Smith Park in Arlington about 7:30 pm Friday, Aug.
27, to check whether the vegetation around the Bird Stream had been cut (it had
not) and to see if any Common Nighthawks were coming thru, in preparation for
our NVBC Nighthawk Watch there Sunday evening. I saw at least 8 Common
Nighthawks about 7:45 pm.
Saturday morning, Pat Blyer, Betty Kilgore, and I--with an assist from
John Fox, who happened to stop by--cut most of the vegetation which had grown
up
in front and in the center of the Bird Stream, so that hopefully, we will be
able to see any birds that come to bathe Sunday while we are waiting for the
nighthawks to appear. Thanks to all who helped me cut the weeds.
