I had a wet but satisfying morning on the Hike/Bike Trail on Sunday. I
found several small mixed flocks-not huge numbers but good diversity. There
were also great views of close shorebirds from the boardwalk. The CT
warbler was at just past the last brush pile to the left of the platform; I
got long looks from about 15 feet. It was a very grungy-looking first-year
bird. Despite only a weak eye-ring, I ruled out mourning warbler because:
it had almost no yellow; it walked rather than hopped on a branch; and it
had a big, thrush-like bill. Other noteworthy birds (a total of 11 species
of warbler):

Solitary sandpiper 1
Greater yellowlegs 1
