I was walking down my street early this afternoon, minding my own affairs,
when I caught a fast-moving bird out of the corner of my eye. "Accipiter!"
screamed my brain. I froze and watched while a Coopers flew by just below my
eye
level, flying east above the street and passing me within ten feet. It flew on
and perched in a tree in the front yard of a neighbor. I walked a little closer
and watched for a minute. Two Mourning Doves flew by and the Coopers looked
agitated, kinda nodding its head. Then a smaller bird (House Finch?) flew by,
further away, but vocalizing, and the Coopers took off, not in pursuit but
again flying very low, this time toward the southwest. My best look at a
Coopers
in a while and an unexpected treat in the street. Cheers,
