I visited Craney Island for a few hours this morning. Alot of birds present in
the middle and north impoundments, but I concentrated on the northern
impoundment as these birds were alot closer and easier to study. Similar list
as Mark Adams reported a few days ago: highlights included 2 Hudsonian Godwits,
4 Marbled Godwits, and a group of 31 American Avocets. I missed the reported
phalaropes, but most of the expected shorebirds were present in decent numbers.
A juvenile Black Skimmer was seen loafing on a mud flat, Heron species
included Great Blue, Yellow-Crowned Night Heron, Great and Snowy Egrets; the
only ducks I found other than Mallards were 3 Northern Shovelers. Have fun,
