I had a very short half hour this evening to stop by Crewe's Channel in
Henrico Co. There was an abundance of shore birds! My daughter counted 28
Great Egrets, but the highlight was 3 tricolored herons. I was looking at
the birds at a very great distance through a scope. The smaller birds were
hard to ID at that distance, and I didn't have the time anyway, but there
were lots of peeps, solitary sandpipers, killdeer, and yellowlegs sp. We
also saw 2 juvenile bald eagles, 2 hummingbirds, and a pileated woodpecker.
About a week ago we found a semipalmated sandpiper there as well.
If anyone plans to visit Crewe's channel in the next few weeks, I'd love to
