Yesterday (July 5) Joyce and I got good looks at a Curlew Sandpiper on the
north side of Oregon Inlet (in the vehicle access area). It was beside the
water in the flats area which is almost enclosed by the vehicle access area.
It was in beautiful russet adult plumage. Also in the area were:
2 Piping Plovers
3 Semi-palmated Plovers
6 Black Terns (2 adults)
Several Sandwich, Forsters and Royal Terns
Many Least Terns
Many Least Sandpipers
We were surprised to see lots of Least Terns carrying food to the roof of the
Outer Banks Mall (Seamark Grocery Store). We could not see on the roof but
they seemed to be feeding young there.
My apologies for the non-Virginia posting but I thought many of you would be
interested. Birding was pretty good at Pea Island also but I won't get into
that.
