I had a brisk walk at Dutch Gap/Henricus this morning. I can report that the
River Trail is now open. The shelter that was damaged by the storm has been
repaired but no work has been done on the boardwalk.
The trail has been cleared of trees (no small job) and is open all the way to
the boat dock and/or road. They have had heavy equiptment in there so it's very
rough, but passable.
Most of the pond going into the park was frozen except for one patch where the
road turns and another up by the overlook.
The ducks were crowded together..Mallards, Gadwalls, Am Wigeons, No Shovelers,
Wood Ducks, Ring Necks and one lonely Redhead. Two immature eagles were
soaring. As I was coming out of the park a RS Hawk flew across right in front
of me and so low I thought I would hit him. He landed in a nearby tree and gave
me some very up close looks.
No deer, no owls, no pintails, no turkeys, no coots...but a very nice day.
