Well, it looks like the warblers had their Labor Day picnics at places other
than Dyke Marsh this morning. Despite perfect conditions, Sherman, Renee,
Helen, Aden and myself managed to scrounge up a measly two (2!) during our walk
-
one COMMON YELLOWTHROAT and one PALM. We had one burst of activity along the
trail that yielded three flycatchers - a PEEWEE, a LEAST, and a GREAT CRESTED.
WARBLING VIREOS were singing and we found three and the ghost of a BLUE JAY
(almost pure white) gave a start to those who saw it flash by. A pre walk visit
to the mudflats c. 7am yielded up 7 species of shorebirds - SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPER, LEAST SANDPIPER, PECTORAL SANDPIPER, SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, KILLDEER
and
G&L YELLOWLEGS. --- CASPIAN TERNS were present, (no Royal for me this a.m.) and
LAUGHING GULLS, not as many as reported by Mr. Keller this evening. Scroll
down for Dyke by the numbers....Rich Rieger
