VA BIRDers,
A delightful day met 10 birders at the regular Sunday morning Field Trip to
Dyke Marsh, sponsored by the Friends of Dyke Marsh and open to all. Today's
highlight was not one, nor two, but three Blackpoll Warblers. All were
quite low and confiding but one was about 12 feet away at eye level in the
sunlight. Everyone got great looks at one of the "confusing fall warblers".
Other highlights were two groups of Tundra Swan flyover groups, No. Harrier
hunting the marsh close to us, Peregrine Falcon on the Wilson Bridge, a
remaining Forster's Tern, a few Winter Wrens, and Gray Catbird. A fine fall
day with good color and temperatures that warmed nicely. Today's list of 60
species is below.
