Around 20 people showed up for the weekly Friends of Dyke Marsh bird walk at
Dyke Marsh which is held every Sunday (except during CBC season) at 8:00 AM and
is free for all to attend. While we did not encounter the Black-billed Cuckoo
or the Least Bittern this week, we did find many other interesting birds and
had great looks at several of them. Some highlights included scope looks from
the picnic area of Bald Eagles on their tower nest west of Dyke Marsh near the
Beltway.. A Spotted Sandpiper was spotted flying from shore out over the
river. We also watched two pairs of Great-crested Flycatchers noisily chase
each other around The famous leaning platform of Ospreys had an adult with
two babies. A well seen Northern Parula flitted around above our heads while
were walking along the road just before the entrance to Haul Road. On Haul
Road, we were able to see three Warbling Vireos chasing each other and
occasionally singing. Lots of spirited birds out today! We also had a superb
view of a Baltimore Oriole

Orchard Oriole. At the end of the boardwalk at the point we saw a perched
Yellow Warbler, Purple Martin and Cedar Waxwing. A Willow Flycatcher was
heard,but not seen.
