Eleven people came out for the weekly walk at Dyke Marsh in Fairfax County.
Walks are sponsored by the Friends of Dyke Marsh and start every Sunday morning
at 8:00 AM. They are free and open to all.
This morning we were treated to wonderful weather and also to some nice birds
with a total of 41 species tallied. Warblers were a highlight with two
Northern Parulas spotted in the picnic area, and an American Redstart, Magnolia
Warbler, Yellow Warbler and a Common Yellowthroat seen along Haul Road. A few
Ospreys and Bald Eagles were in the area along with Caspian and Forster's
Terns. Greater Yellowlegs were the only shorebirds that we could find.
Butterfly highlights included two monarchs, two Viceroys and a few Black
Swallowtails.
