Thirteen birders participated in a rather slow walk at Dyke Marsh today.
The wind suppressed land birds quite effectively. The normal convention of
two dozen or more Mourning Doves at the marina failed to materialize. There
were no Winter Wrens to be found.. or Tufted Titmice even! Nobody seemed to
complain about the absence of European Starlings however. Waterfowl
consisted of Canada Geese, Gadwall, Mallards, two Green-winged Teal, a
single Northern Shoveler, and I believe our first Northern Pintail of the
season. A Bald Eagle circled the marina several times at low altitude,
permitting great views.
