Hearing about the great fallout of waterbirds in the area, I went to
Gravelly Point this (Sat, 3/24) afternoon. Shortly after arriving (around
4pm) I heard an EASTERN MEADOWLARK singing. I never located the bird, but
believe it was in the grassy area that fenced off at Gravelly. It's
possible that it was across the mouth of Roche's Run and actually on the
airport grounds itself, but I'm not sure.
In this fenced off field there were many SONG SPARROWS, as well as at least
1 SAVANNAH SPARROW, and 1 BROWN THRASHER.
As for waterbirds, I had a great variety, but all seen from Hains Pt in DC
(go to MDOsprey for that report as I dare not upset the balance of the bird
e-lists).
