I just posted this to MDOsprey.
I thought it might interest Northern Virginia birders as well.
*Subject: Four Eagle chicks at Great Falls*
Spent a couple of hours birding on the Md side of Great Falls this
afternoon. The highlight was seeing, through a scope, both of the adult
eagles and both of the two new ( white and fuzzy but very active) chicks on
the nest, at the south end of Conn Island, at the same time. Very nice
views. Also a few first for 2009 birds: a male Baltimore oriole, two male
and one female Orchard orioles. A pair of clearly mated and preparing to
nest, Rough-wing swallows, hanging around lock-20. Earlier in the day, I
saw my first for 2009 Eastern Kingbird sitting on a metal rail by the boat
launch across the river at Riverbend park in Virginia.
Must be Spring, huh?
