I enjoyed a nice weekend on the eastern shore with Tina Trice, Paul Glass and
my buddies Scott Barnes and Linda Mack from New Jersey Audubon who were leading
a field trip down here for the Sandy Hook Bird Observatory. Overall, birding
was slow probably due to the gusty southerly winds but we managed a few good
birds. Saturday's highlights were 2 GOLDEN EAGLES seen by the NJ group, one on
Magotha Rd and another near Stingray's Restaurant. A latish GREEN HERON was
spied at the Ramp Rd. pond at ESVNWR creeping along the phragmites and a SEDGE
WREN and NELSON'S SPARROW were at Magotha Rd. On Sunday, the NJ group was back
up at Chincoteague NWR and I received a text message from Scott saying that a
drake EURASIAN WIGEON was at Snow Goose pool. Back down in Northampton Co.,
Paul, Tina and I ran into a GOLDEN EAGLE on route 600 just north of the Oyster
landfill and we also saw a RED-NECKED GREBE in the bay off the boardwalk at
Cape Charles. Good birding.
