Howdy all,
I did a little birding around the south tip of the Eastern Shore yesterday and
then to Island 1 on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel.
I did a bit better than I was expecting given the short amount of time I was
out. Here are the highlights.
Sedge Wren????? 1????? at the end of Magotha Rd.
Marsh Wren?????? 1????? near the Ramp Pond on the Eastern Shore of VA NWR
(ESVNWR)
Gray Catbird????? 2????? on the butterfly trail? ESVNWR
Purple Finch?????? 6+??? near the bunker? ESVNWR
Snow Geese??? 1,500+? all over?? Very active night on the 8th for them
Tundra Swan?????4????? over Kiptopeke
Harlequin Duck? ?? 2????????? ?males, both on lsland?1? CBBT
Bonaparte's Gull?? 200+??????Large group feeding between island 1 and 2.?? CBBT
Forster's Tern?????? 75+?????? same area???? CBBT
Laughing Gull?????????25+????? still a few hanging around
Long-tailed Duck??? 6??????????CBBT
Purple Sandpiper????5?????????? CBBT
Northern Gannet??? 25+?????? Not many
Scoter species???? NONE!!!!????? Still have not seen one from Island 1 this
fall!!!!
LOTS of boaters around this weekend. Kiptopeke boat ramp was insane, so I
didn't bird there yesterday. And lots of boats around all the islands of the
CBBT.
I am going to put up a few pictures of the Harlequin's up on the Kiptopeke blog
page the link is www.cvwo.org
They are not the greatest pictures but the best I could do.
Warm day today! Better than the ice that Kansas and Oklahoma got!
Cheers,
Jethro Runco
