Hi All,
Interesting day birding on the Eastern Shore today! Listed below are the
different species we saw in just a couple of hours.
Golden Eagle (best bird of the day)
Coopers Hawk (many)
Bald Eagle (at least 5 maybe more, but visibility pretty poor at times)
Tree Swallows (thousands, have never seen so many)
Kestrel (at least 20)
Black Vultures (at least 15)
Turkey Vultures (10-15)
Laughing Gulls (at least one thousand)
Herring Gulls (several noted)
Merlin (5)
Osprey (several)
Peregrine Falcon (3 positive ID's)
White Ibis (8)
Kingfisher (5)
Great Egrets (10)
Red-tailed (several) One noted chasing a Kingfisher who was quite vocal and
did get away
Mockingbird (2)
Harrier (2)
Flicker
(1)
Grackles (several)
European Starlings (would not waste time counting, who cares)
Bluebirds (several)
Mourning Doves (they are everywhere)
Cormorant (several)
Crows (probably fish, but did not hear them calling so unable to ID)
Black-back Gulls (a few)
Brown Pelicans (5)
Ruddy Turnstone (8)
Pigeons (hundreds at least)
Too windy to spend much time on CBBT to locate the redbellied Gull that has
been reported lately. Very windy and cold on bridge. Rained at Cape Charles.
Actually we ran in and out of rain a couple of times.
