I tried to send a message yesterday, but I guess the "Doom" worm clogged up
the system since it did not go through. I too have had a pleasant winter
surprise. I went out during the "frizzle" on Monday to refill feeders and
replenish the fontain. As I was listening to the usual "carping" from my
local denizens about how long it was taking me to get breakfast out, I heard
a new voice. It was the "hweet" of a towhee. Looking around I spied a
female (juvenile? when do they change colors?) sitting in a bare tree near
my deck. I sprinkled seed on the deck to accomodate those who prefer to
snack off the floor and retreated to watch. This a.m. I again heard her(?)
calling in the woods. Usually I have a nesting pair in the spring/summer
but this is the first time I remember having her around this early (late?).
