Hello birders,
Yesterday and today I saw my FOS Woodcock and Purple Finch, respectively.
Wednesday morning I went on a scramble through the woods west of Elklick Run,
in Elklick Preserve. Lots of Robins everywhere, and I stumbled upon (and
almost, stumbled into) an American Woodcock. It flushed just a couple of feet
in front of me.
This morning 19 November at home in suburban Fairfax, a single female Purple
Finch came to our feeders. I was on my way to work and had no intention to do
any birding. But the flurry of activity at our feeders stopped me.
We had the usual yard assortment, but all at once and very active. The one
bird stood out from the House Finches and other feeder birds (and sparrows on
the ground) like a doubly white-striped sore thumb.
This was a happy first bird ever for our yard (and neighborhood).
Good birding!!
