the Birds of NC. I thought that I would pass it on since many of us VA
Birders travel to NC
and that you would enjoy this website.
It would be great if the VSO could get the birds of VA done in this matter
after we finish the next Breeding Bird Atlas.

The Peak counts section for most species is still quite incomplete, as
probably many peak counts are those from Christmas Bird Counts and Spring
Bird Counts, and these are usually not reported in Chat Briefs for the
Files. However, I have tried to update all of the Finding Tips, though
these are still mostly generic, with specific sites not listed for most
species. John and I will be updating new records (which appear in each
issue of the Chat Briefs for the Files, and some from the General Field
Notes) this winter.
Our current project is to produce breeding range maps for those roughly
200 species that nest in the state; a few have been done (see Dark-eyed
Junco, Seaside Sparrow, and Chuck-will�s-widow for samples). After that, we
hope to attempt winter range maps, a trickier job than attempting breeding
maps. Ali Iyoob is still hoping to gather more data from folks to fill in
the county range maps for each species. Thus, the website is still a work
in progress.
Nonetheless, we hope that we have included all of the records for the
truly rare species, through 2010, and general abundance and distribution
information for all species. We also want to write accounts for several
�Questionable Origin� species, so that folks will have information on
species such as Monk Parakeet, White-cheeked Pintail, and a few others that
might be �countable� or �legitimate strays�. We might also include a
few
species that were listed as Unaccepted Sighting, such as White-chinned
Petrel and Brown Skua, that potentially could have represented valid
records, but for which the Records Committee felt that the reports were not
quite convincing (though plausible).
Let me know if you spot obvious errors � wrong dates, locales, numbers,
bad typos, etc. I�m sure there are plenty! Enjoy.
