Comments: Went to the park today for the first time to birdwatch in nearly
two years. I was hoping to find some shorebirds because the water level is
still very low. I was surprised to only find Killdeers and how much larger the
islands in the Staunton River had gotten. It won't be long and you will not be
able to see over to Mecklenburg County on account of the trees on the islands.
You can only see a little of the cove to the north of Staunton View Park from
Staunton River State Park. In February this cove would hold up to 25 or more
Common Mergansers, if they come in now you would not be able to see them.
