The single Peregrine Falcon fledgling has taken her first flight as of 10 am
June 20th. She was seen by Sergio Harding on a ledge below the pen. Shortly
after 11 am, she flew with the adult female in a straight level flight until
both birds disappeared behind the McQuire Woods building.
The staff of the Divison of Wildlife Resources in the Dept. of Game and Inland
Fisheries will be monitoring her flights in downtown Richmond for the next few
days. To my knowledge, this is the only state agency on the East Coast that
monitors Falcons in cities and they should be commended for their work. The
Staff is definitely dedicated to this project. Thank you for your fine efforts.
Between July 1st and August 31st, come to Kanawha Plaza. Bring binocs, a lawn
chair, snacks, and plenty of water. If you see her fly, let the Department of
Game and Inland Fisheries know by calling the main number (804) 367-1000 or
367-1258 (weekends).
