Hi all:
Took a brief look around Rectortown: Crenshaw and Atoka Rd. hoping for a
late Short-eared owl or
Harrier. No such luck.
Had a nice view of a Meadowlark (1 of 3) singing its heart out in a field
next to the short-eared owl
viewing site.
Got some nice looks at 4 (slim possibility of duplication) Kestrels (2 at
Crenshaw Rd, 2 at Atoka Rd.)
Also fortunate enough to see a Snipe pass overhead into an appropriately
muddy field.
Nearby some crows that might have been mobbing something, a Red--headed
woodpecker hung
on the trunk of a tree in a small tract of woodland, where the trees
couldn't have been more than
50 years old.
Other birds included: 6 Bluebirds, 30 Dark-eyed Juncos, 3 Blue jays, 20
crows. 3 song sparrows
4 White-throated Sparrows.
Crenshaw road is interesting in that it eventually parallels an eroded
stream bank (perfect Kingfisher
nesting habitat)
For those interested in old bridges, on a one-lane section of Crenshaw,
there is a bridge built in
1919.
Happy birding all.
