The snow today has brought a concentration of birds to the seed thrown on the
ground under the other feeders. Since my high of four Fox Sparrows on the 23rd
I have been able to find 2-3 per day when there has been time to watch. Today,
however, I have been able to come up with six at one time.
This past weekend I spotted a few Red-winged Blackbirds and a small flock of
Brown-headed Cowbirds flying through town for the first time this year, and
today about a dozen cowbirds (two females accompanying males) and two pair of
redwings have joined the ground flock, as well as several grackles, along with
the usual crowd of a couple of dozen each of whitethroats and juncos, along
with cardinals and a few doves, jays, and Song Sparrows.
Good birding,
