On a Sierra Club trip to Fisherman Island this morning, there were a few birds
seen. A male NORTHERN HARRIER was flying over the marshes on the north end of
the island, along with several GREAT EGRETS. A pair of BALD EAGLES was seen
too. There were few waterfowl seen, but TUNDRA SWANS (overhead), SURF SCOTERS,
a WHITE-WINGED SCOTER, a female BUFFLEHEAD, and a SCAUP (most likely GREATER)
were seen. Surprisingly, not a single loon was observed. A few flocks of
BONAPARTE'S GULLS were seen on the bay side. A single YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER
was in the cherry trees on the island and YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS were
plentiful. We also had some of the expected species. Thank you to Judy Hinch
for inviting me on this trip. It was a nice, but cool day.
No eiders were seen at island 1 of the CBBT, but SANDERLINGS, a PURPLE
SANDPIPER, and a few RUDDY TURNSTONES were.
