Fellow birders,
During a visit to Fort C. F. Smith Park in Arlington from 7:10
to 8:30 this morning a singing White-eyed Vireo was present in the thickets
by the stream, a pair of Brown Thrashers was in these thickets or singing
from a nearby tree, Northern Rough-winged Swallows were foraging on pebbles
in the parking lot when not flying and calling, several Northern Parulas
were singing from the treetops and somewhat surprisingly a male Wood Duck
was perched in a tree in the woods in back of the house. Migrants also
included Yellow-rumped Warbler (1), Brown-headed Cowbirds, Blue-gray
Gnatcatchers and Eastern Phoebes. There also were at least 8 Northern
Flickers in the park and numerous Chipping Sparrows. Winter residents
included Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Dark-eyed Juncos, singing White-throated
Sparrows and a couple of Hermit Thrush.
